22 week update

October 26, 2010

How Far Along: 22 weeks

How big is our little bean: size of a spaghettie squash (??) – in non-vegetable terms — 28cm

Total Weight Gain: Weighed with a different scale last week and if it is accurate, I’m +8kg.

Maternity Clothes: Getting tighter by the day.

Sleep: 8 hrs still and now I’m sleeping like a baby with my new body pillow.  It’s the best thing ever — even DH commented how comfy I look.  It’s money well spent.  Only issue was that as soon as the pillow came, I got this nasty cold and have been waking up from hacking my lungs out.

Other Symptoms: Heartburn has eased up, slightly!  Swelling has reduced as well but it may be due to inactivity (ie. sick)

Best Moment this Week: Seeing the little one during our 21 weeks anatomy scan.  The LO was active and was waving at us.  Everything seems to be there and we even saw nostrils and eyelashes!  And 99.5% confirmation — ITS A GIRL!!

Worst Moment this Week: Getting a cold.  I thought it might be allergies from the awful haze from the forest fires in the neighbouring country, but as I progressively got worst — starting with a sore throat, sneezing, and then running nose, I went to see a GP.  He confirmed that I had a cold and I put myself on bedrest from friday till sunday.  I couldn’t take any real medications, so it was a lot of sleep, chicken soup, and saline gargle to try to fight the bug.  Slowly recovering now (still sound a bit off) and hope I fully recover soon.  The worst is that I cough and wake myself up in the middle of the night a gazillion times.

Movement: Definite movements — the LO is active around certain times of the day and when it’s party time — it is party time.  Even DH felt the movements and sometimes, if I lie still, I can see my belly moving from the kicks and punches.  I LOVE IT! (for now)  It’s strange how assuring it is to feel the LO moving around and how I’m a bit anxious when its quiet in there for extended periods of time.

Food Cravings: No change — still always hungry!

What are You Looking Forward to this Week: our much deserved and much needed break — 2 weeks in Europe.  Yippee… Can’t wait to go on vacation in this small window before I can’t fly again.

21 weeks update

October 18, 2010

How Far Along: 21 weeks
How big is our little bean: size of a small cantelouope

Total Weight Gain: Weighed in at +6kg 2 weeks ago — and I’m only gaining (not losing) weight.  I think I’m a bit overweight but I blame it on the serious water retention I’m getting from the last weeks of unrelentless hot and very humid weather here in Singapore.  My feet are so swollen it actually hurts.  Wonder if I can get stretch marks on my feet?

Maternity Clothes: I think some of my 2nd tri maternity clothes (1 size larger) are getting a tad bit tight around the belly region.  Time to break out the 3rd tri clothings (a.k.a. the tents)?

Sleep: 8 hours or so and better than 2 weeks ago.  My body pillow has arrived in town and hope the delivery attempt will be successful tomorrow.  I can’t wait to try out my new snoogle.

Other Symptoms: Heartburn, heartburn and heartburn.

Best Moment this Week: Seeing how DH is bonding with our little one.  Also, special delivery from the US of all kinds of goodies — clothes, books, baby carrier, muslim clothes, toys, diaper bag, etc.

Movement: I am getting to 80% certainty that the bubbles I feel are from the little one.  Not definitive because it could be gas — but it feels like there is another being inside me (reminds me a bit of the aliens movie)

Food Cravings: Still always hungry now.  I eat more than most guys around me.  Kind scary.

What are You Looking Forward to this Week:  our 21 week anatomy scan on wed.  We hope the little one is looking healthy and confirming that it is indeed a “she” since she wasn’t so coorperative during our last dr visit 2 weeks ago (legs crossed).  We got some girly onesies which won’t work for a boy.

19 weeks update

October 5, 2010

How Far Along: 19 weeks
How big is our little bean: size of a heirloom tomato (ok — try 15 cm)

Total Weight Gain: Will be weighing tonight.  My guess is 3+ kgs

Maternity Clothes: All maternity pants/skirts and mostly larger sized or maternity tops.  My old stuff are a bit tight and short now.

Sleep: Definitely less than before but what is annoying now is that I’m starting to have trouble sleeping in.  If I hear anything in the mornings, I’m up and that’s it — even if it is 8am.  Also, I’m finding it hard to get comfortable sleeping on my side (maybe a balance issue) that I wake up with a sore shoulder in the middle of the night.  Can’t wait to get my body pillow.

Of course — the weird dreams have started and the dreams are quite dreary.  I wake up quite shaken up sometimes at how dark or bizarre some of the dreams have been.

Other Symptoms: Heartburn has arrived with a vengence.  Gaviscon is currently my best friend but it’s been especially bad the last few days.  According to the book, heartburn happens to 50% of pregnant women and constipation to 50% of pregnant women.  I happen to be lucky enough to have both.

Best Moment this Week: Ordering a ton of stuff in the US and deciding on things we’ll get later on with DH.  Also, knowing that we’ll get to see our little one tonight and again for a detailed anatomy scan in 2 weeks.

Movement: Maybe but I’m still not sure.  I can’t tell if it is gas from my heartburn or the little one moving around.  DH felt something last night but had the same questions.  We’re currently encouraging our little one to kick — which probably would not have good long term consequences — esp. when they are 2 years old.

Food Cravings: Still always hungry now.  Nothing new.

What are You Looking Forward to this Week:  the scan tonight to see the little one and double confirm the sex (else we’ll in trouble with some of our purchases so far).  It’s been almost a month since we saw our little one so we’re having some U/S withdrawl.  Also, hoping we get clearance to go on vacation to Europe for 2 weeks towards the end of Oct.
