IVF#1 recap

March 29, 2010

Our IVF #1 can be summarized as follows:

  • 12 shots in the tummy
  • 5 shots in the butt
  • 4 blood draws
  • 1 IV
  • 1 egg retrieval surgery (30 min of the best sleep)
  • 1 full bladder for embryo transfer (wide awake)
  • 30 progesterone sticks and 45 progresterone pills to help them stick

= 2 blastocysts out of the 15 eggs retrieved (8 mature, 5 fertilized, none to freeze)

One of our 2 hatching blasts

The outcome: 2 perfect blasts that did not stick and we’re left wondering why.

Round 2 IVF coming up with some tweaks for the better.

Take 2

March 25, 2010

It’s been almost 2 weeks since our failed IVF cycle.  It was our first cycle and we banked our dreams on it.  That dream came to an abrupt end the sunday morning we tested at home and found  “not pregnant” on the home pregnancy test.

How do we feel?  Mixed.  We had such high hopes that things would work out but of course, luck and chance was not on our side.  We simply fell into the wrong side of the 50/50 odds.  Our 2 weeks of grieving is now over.   We are moving forward with round 2 and hoping a slight change in protocol will give us more to hope for this time around.

We are hoping to use this blog to help others going through the same treatment or about to embark on the IVF journey some insights and share our first hand experiences.  It’s a place for us to vent and talk about our hard to attain dreams.
